We went to north Seoul to a place called Ui-dong (우의동) to find some streams to paddle in. The rains hadn’t been sufficient enough so no luck there. Instead, w stopped instead at one of the many restaurants along the stream and had a great time at Chowon Garden (초원가든), a restaurant made up of an intricate set of walkways and platforms either side of the stream/river. It looked somewhat like a shanty town.
We ordered baeksuk (백숙), a large whole chicken soup cooked with greens, and other vegetables and Korean medicinal(?) items. After ordering, they bring everything over to your platform/deck on the tray which then becomes your table! You then heat it up on the supplied gas burner, open a couple of cold beers, then enjoy the afternoon!
The stream wasn’t really running due to lack of rain, but after the rains, cold, clean water runs through here and you can paddle and cool off nicely, much like we’d done a while back at Gyeryongsan. Back then, we had a different chicken dish, a spicy one.
A short video which shows the experience a little better than the photos:
There are lots of places to eat and drink at along that street. You can walk there from Bukhansan Ui Station (북한산우이) the last stop on the Ui Line (a driverless subway train!). If you drive up there, you may get stuck for a while at weekends as it seems very popular. Enjoy!
Google Maps location is wrong; here’s the Kakao Maps version:
