Chicken soup at Gyeryongsan 계룡산 계곡

Day 4 of our 5-day, end of summer road-trip

Walking back from Donghaksa, we spent a lot of time trying to pick a place to eat. I wanted lively, usually a sign of good food. However, with literally dozens of entrances to choose from, it wasn’t easy; the restaurant interiors weren’t visible from the road and in most case, you had to go through a little tunnel and steps or ramps down to the restaurant, where a whole world of people, chatter and eating would appear. Amazing really.

The restaurant (계룡산식당) was ‘open air’ but covered and over looked the stream. There were more steps leading down to the actual stream where you could also eat your meals and play in the cool water. It was busy and lively, but also had plenty of space for us! We opted to eat in the part overlooking the stream since it looked comfier.

We went for dakdoritang (닭도리탕), a large dish of spicy chicken soup, and a few bottles of makgeolli, traditional, fresh Korean rice wine.
