Museum SAN, Wonju 뮤지엄 산

One my last day of my trip to Chungju Lake and Danyang, and on my way back to Seoul, I went to Wonju to a lovely museum, Museum SAN.

DAY 4 OF 4-DAY TRIP to Chungju Lake & Danyang (and Wonju!)
Museum SAN

It took about an hour to drive north to Wonju from Danyang. It was about 12 o’clock when I got to Museum SAN. The sun was scorching, and it was getting busy. I was immediately impressed with the modern and low rock and concrete buildings, gardens and water features as you make your way from the lobby area deeper into the complex. Is it an art gallery more than a museum?

Once inside, there were rooms and exhibits to explore. As per usual though, I was more into the architecture than the exhibits! There were some interesting chairs on display, I think designed by famous architects.

Outside again, there was cool garden made of stone and trees; sounds bleak, I know, but it’s very striking.

One of the reason I wanted to come here was the coffee shop as the garden looked pretty spectacular in some blog photos. It didn’t disappoint. There was a garden terrace set next to a set of multi-levelled ponds. It also overlooked some lush green hills in the distance. I sat there for a while just chilling. The place was pretty crowded by then so I was fortunate to get a seat. I’d love to return with Romana one sunny day (update: I did!).

So that was my trip to Chungju Lake and Danyang (and Wonju). I would like to return; seems like there’s plenty more to explore around the lake including some camping and canoeing. Perhaps a drive, camp and hike at Woraksan again, the a few days around the lake?
