Chungju Lake, trout, tea, Woraksan Mountain

We drove to Chungju Lake and spent some time at a suspension bridge. After that, some lovely refreshing tea. Then we had some fresh trout sashimi before moving on to lovely mountain views of Woraksan, and more eating in the cool streams. This was the sixth day of me and Romana’s seven-day road trip to the east coast.

Chungju Lake

We left Slow City Pension and got on the road. We had quite a long drive inland to get to the lake. It was a scorching hot day and we were thinking of renting some canoes to take on the lake. Once we got to the canoe area, we changed our mind; we probably would have boiled out on the lake! Instead we strolled very slowly across the bridge and took a walk in the shady trail.

Dawayeon Tea House

Then we decided to get refreshments and slowly make our way to our final night’s accommodation. By chance we spotted Dawayeon (다와연) a tea shop on the road; there was a garden and they served a range of traditional drinks.

Daeseong Songo Trout Restaurant

While relaxing there, looked for a trout restaurant and luckily there was one very close by. And also luckily, it was still open! Daeseong Songo Restaurant (대성송어양식장횟집) serves trout sashimi farmed on their land in the mountains. It was very nice indeed!

Malma Pension and Woraksan streams

From the trout restaurant, it was a short drive to our accommodation, Malma Pension (말마펜) under Woraksan Mountain. It was a new building in a gorgeous village location. There was a private rooftop terrace with uninterrupted view of Woraksan. Romana had some work to do, so I sourced us some takeout food and set up some chairs and a table in the nearby stream for our second stream dinner of the trip! We bought beer and some local dish that I can’t remember the name of! Sitting in the cool stream after such a sweltering day was bliss. We sat some more on our terrace and just zoned out with TV and sleep once it got dark!
