DAY 2 OF 4-DAY Geoje ROAD TRIP
Today took me to the south of Geoje for a longer-than-expected hike up one of the green “hills”, and a trip to the south east for some more relaxing adventures at a fishing town and some fantastic coastal cliffs.
I drove east to a place called Windy Hill (바람의언덕), a beauty spot by the coast. It is a really pretty area and you get there by going to a fishing village, parking up and walking to the a little outcrop. I imagine this place would be rammed in the holiday season and it was already quite busy, but not enough to bother me. The outcrop was a grassy spot surrounded by sea and a windmill above it. The name did not disappoint as it was very windy, pleasantly so, but enough to blow off hats, scarfs and whatever else was loosely hanging to you! The windmill seemed real and the sails were moving at quite a pace.
I wandered up over the village and enjoyed views of the sea and harbour below thinking this part of the island must be home to some really great holiday villas. At the top, I grabbed a Korean style hot dog from one of two or three rival stands; this one had all “as seen on TV” signs all over it so was obviously the best…
Next I went across the road to see the sea on the opposite side and walked down to a black sand beach and some impressive looking rock formations. I couldn’t get any decent photos here (new phone, wrong settings…) but took some video, which shows more clearly what they’re like.
Back at the top, I grabbed a coffee at a perfectly located, modern-looking coffee shop, and ordered an Einspänner coffee aka, Viennese coffee, (a cream topped latte?) and a rich, chocolate muffin. I had a seat overlooking the fishing village below and chilled out with Instagram for a bit! I took a stroll after that through the fishing village and saw some nice colourful murals on the houses.
After that it was a 40 or 50 minute drive back to the guesthouse with thoughts turning to dinner in town; it was beef gukbap followed by some beers back at the hostel. No guests had joined me in the shared room; good for me, not so good for the host.
