DAY 2 OF 4-DAY Geoje ROAD TRIP
A view!

Today took me to the south of Geoje for a longer-than-expected hike up one of the green hills, and a trip to the south east for some more relaxing adventures at in a fishing town and some fantastic coastal cliff.

Driving south was really nice, so relaxing amongst all those green hills along the windy roads. I headed to a harbour for a place to park out of the way. The sky and water looked lovely and inviting. I walked up to where I’d head onto the mountain which took about 10 minutes and found the trail head. It was a forest walk with a gentle incline. However every few metres or so, I’d be walking into cobwebs so I guess it was spider season! I grabbed a stick to swing ahead of me which had some benefits.

Eventually I came across an old fortress, mainly ruins, but the old looking stones were impressive. I stopped here for a snack and pondered whether to continue; I’d planned to do a quick hike here, then a quick hike south but could already tell that this was going to be a while! I could see what I thought was (and actually was) the peak ahead and I knew it wasn’t going to be a short hike! These hill are deceptively tough.

I decided to carry on, so onward through more woods, along some grassed areas and finally to my first view point; it was pretty spectacular and showed the wonders of these islands, despite the less than perfect air quality. I could see more of the green hills in the sea, and down into the small town in the distance. The rocks were getting nicer up here too. This was a rare viewpoint though.

Up some more and I felt I was getting closer to the peak. Once I got there, it turned out to be a old fire signal position. There wasn’t too much of a view due to the trees, but interesting nonetheless.

Now here came the tricky bit…I’d planned to take another route back which should have been about the same amount of time… nope! The trail on my phone app just wasn’t there, so I spent a while scrabbling through grass and old leaves convinced I’d find the trail. No such luck. I was getting a bit annoyed and also worried about wrecking my ankle in a hidden hole, or getting lymes disease! So I headed back to the peak and took a longer route. So more forest and a bit precarious in spots due to loose stones on the trail but ok in the long run. I followed a stream for a while too, then missed a place I needed to cross so ended up doubling back. Eventually, there were signs of life and I made it too the road and the sea.
