Snorkelling at Janghohang Harbour, rest at Gopohang Beach, dinner in mountain stream! Samcheok

We snorkelled at Janghohang Harbour, then visited Gopohang Beach, a sandy beach with extremely aggressive waves. We finished with a lovely meal sitting in the steam by our tent. This was the second day of me and Romana’s seven-day road trip to the east coast.

Snorkelling at Janghohang

We had a quick breakfast at the campsite, then drove back to where we were yesterday. It was still busy but we managed to book a wooden deck on the coast looking into the rocky sea. The fee was good for all day, and it included a two life jackets. It was cloudy and windy. We hesitated about getting into the water but went in. The sea was quite rough so we needed to take care because of the rocks. The weather had churned up the sea a bit, too, so it was quite murky with bits of sea rubbish floating into the harbour. Still, it was interesting! And the scenery is very nice. Romana had bought a space age looking snorkelling mask which I was trying out. We saw some fish but not a lot. We ate snacks and rested on our little bit of decking. It’s quite a spectacular piece of coastline and I want to visit again.

After a few hours, we drove on to Gopo Beach. Actually, Gopo beach seemed to be fenced off so we were actually at Gopohang Harbour which also has a sandy beach. It was very pleasant. There was a military guardpost on the rocks above the beach and other signs of military defences. The waves were fierce and the sun was beating down. We set up the beach tent for some shade and took another rest. Farther up the beach, a couple of photographers were photographing a model in an extremely revealing swimsuit! We stayed about an hour before thinking about dinner.

In the town of Wondeokeup, we bought beers and some bossam (steamed pork) and some fried chicken to take back to the campsite. We set up our plastic table and camping chairs out in the shallow stream and ate and drank as the sun got lower. Lovely evening! Later, we drank some plum wine next to the tent before showering and heading to bed.
