This was the last day of my trip. I went to east to check out a coastal boardwalk, then inland for some brunch at Pancake Day. Finally, I dropped by an outlet, then checked in the SOCAR, and got on the bus in time to miss the downpour. This was day 5 of a five-day trip to Sokcho and Seoraksan.
I got up around 9, packed and took a few photos of the view from the room.
Then I drove east to a coastal walk called the Ongchi Bada Hyanggi Trail (외옹치바다향기로). It’s a short wooden boardwalk around a small outcrop of rocky land. The path goes onto stilts into the sea before getting back to land.
Brunch at Pancake Day
I’d seen Pancake Day on my map app a few times, but it had always been closed to days I was nearby; today it was open so I thought this would be a perfect place to eat before heading out of Sokcho. It’s about five minute’s drive from the Ongchi trail. I got there about 10:30 and was the first customer. No one else came while I was there either. I was met by a cute little white dog. It’s a clean, neat restaurant with a decent menu. I got the basic cooked breakfast and coffee, though there are plenty of other options.
After that, I dropped by an outdoor clothing outlet I’d seen advertised that promised lots of discounts on brands aI was interested in (thinking about new hiking shoes). It was hugely disappointing! Next, I parked the SOCAR at the drop-off point and took a leisurely stroll around Sockcho beach. I went to the harbour wall, then walked a little bit up the road north, past a cafe Gareth and I visited last year while cycling. I was just killing time at this point and rain was threatening to come. I went back to the parking lot and checked in my car on the app then made my way out. In the elevator, I realised I’d left my tablet PC in the car, so rushed back, thankfully remembering there’s an option to open the doors within 30 minutes of checking in the car; there was my tablet lying on the back seat…phew. Anyway, I walked my case to the bus station as the rain was starting to show itself and waited for my bus. Once on the road, it started pouring. Unfortunately, it took about four hours to get back to Seoul with all the Friday evening traffic. But nothing to ruin my trip to Sokcho and Seoraksan.
