Haesindang Park, Camping, Negaissneun Cafe, Korean beef, Samcheok

We drove to a very crowded beach, had a nice coffee, visited an interesting park, and ate lovely grilled Korean beef. This was the first day of me and Romana’s seven-day road trip to the east coast.

Janghohang and Galnamhang Harbour

We are fortunate enough to be able to use my sister- and brother-in-law’s car. We set off very early Sunday morning and drove 3 hours or so east, then south to Janghohang Harbour. The plan was to spend a day at the beack snorkelling in the blue seas and amongst the gorgeous looking rocks. It was too busy. This was the height of the Korean vacation season and even though it was a Sunday, it was rammed. We drove a little more south and parked on the road above Galnam Harbour (갈남항) and wandered around the beach there. It was also extremely busy, without any place to sit on the sand. Instead, we got a coffee at Negaissneun Bada (네가있는바) to rethink. It was a good Einspanner and cake, which we took to the roof terrace to enjoy the lovely views. We decided to return tomorrow as early as we good in order to get a place at the beach for some snorkelling.

Haesindang Park

A bit further down was a very interesting park. The theme is basically penises and sex so a bit NSFW. It was quite fascinating. There were tons of penis sculptures all incredibly big and detailed. There were also lots of very surreal sculptures which I won’t even try to describe. The pictures will tell all!

Byeongpung Bawi (Rock) Campsite

The campsite we were going to stay at for two nights was a bit further south and inland along a river (병풍바위야영장). I was in a great location in a wooded area with access to the river and a view to Byeonpungbawi rock across the water. We hadn’t bothered with fire stuff and cooking gear this trip and were planning to eat out or get take-out. We made our camp and set up our new cheap tarp, then drove to a nearby town to eat.

Beef

Hosan Hanwoo (호산한우구이촌) is a Korean beef grill. It was pricey! We got a plate and sat for a feast. We got back to camp and had some beers at the table listening to music and chatting. It was a long day and we were pretty exhausted.
