Gunsan Lake 군산호수

I took a three day trip to Gunsan to explore some of the surrounding countryside and some of the historic town. I didn’t do all the things I’d planned to do because of weather forecasts that didn’t turn out to be accurate, but I still had fun.

Day 1 of 3-day trip to Gunsan

Me and a friend took an express bus from Gosok Bus Terminal in the middle of Seoul. These coach/bus rides are usually direct and extremely comfortable and reasonably priced. It took only about 2 hours from to Gunsan. As usual, there was a fifteen-minute stop at some motorway services. This time, I encountered some scarily scaled rodents…

In Gunsan, we grabbed a coffee and sandwich, then had to get a taxi to our accommodation (to dump my bag). We then got another cab to our first main stop, Gunsan Lake (군산호수), about 10 minutes drive south. Asking to go to Gunsan Lake confused our driver, so you may need to use alternative names or use a map; try Gunsan-josuji (군산조주지). There are two big lakes in the area and I think he wanted to drive us to a different one.

We hiked the trail around the lake; the weather was perfect. The scenery was really nice, mainly wooded with sections right next to the lake. There were also lots of birds on, and flying over, the lake.

We came across a grave yard.

Some sections of the trail featured a lot of bamboo trees. Also some public park areas with exercise machines.

We got a bus back to town then checked in to our Dashim Guesthouse guesthouse accommodation (다쉼 게스트 하우스). We had a room with a bunk bed; it was small but fine. A simple breakfast of toast and cereal was included.

We wandered around a little to find some food. We had grilled beef at Lee Char Dol (이차돌). Then we walked to Lucky Market (럭키마케트) to get some beer before heading back to our accommodation and a well-earned rest.
