The Garden of Morning Calm (아침고요수목원) is a beautiful, well maintained garden park with lots of different sections, hills and places to explore. There are restaurants and coffee shops too, all you need for a nice day out. My wife and I got up early and I took a train and bus east from Seoul to I think we paid about 10,000 won to get in.
There are paths leading up and down hills and through different themed gardens, Japanese, Korean, British and others.
We got caught in the rain early on and spent about 30 minutes in a wooden pavilion along with a few other people. It was very pleasant listening to the rain in the warm weather.
Other sections are wide and green spaces with trees, colourful flower beds,
There are also wooded areas, wooden bridges, streams, greenhouses, follies, benches, and a model railway.
There was even a Marvel and Lego populated miniature village (of three houses!).
Lunch was at a food court type place as prt of our escape from tht rain.
We finished the day with a stop at Majang meat market for some Korean beef BBQ. I’ll need to make another post about this place.
Getting there isn’t too easy by without a car, so I recommend renting or using SOCAR if you can. We took a train: We left from Sinnae Station (신내역) taking the Kyeongchun Line (경춘선) north east to Cheongpyeong Station (청평역). Then, from near Gate 1, bus 30-6 or 30-7 to the Garden of Morning Calm. The total journey is about 2 hours, so really do leave early!
