Trout sashimi Baekdam Waterfalls Trout Restaurant 백담폭포송어회 Korea

Trout and dishes
DAY 1 OF OUR 3-DAY ROAD TRIP

Romana and I took a three-day trip to the east of Korea. Our first stop was a restaurant specialising in trout. Yummy!! In the UK trout is generally pah fried with herbs, lemon and the like. I had raw trout for the first time in Korea during an ice fishing weekend many years ago. I don’t see trout advertised in Seoul so I tend to forget about it. Trout was on my mind the day before we left for some reason, so I searched 송어 on my Kakao Maps and saved a promising location that was on the way to our accommodation in Sokcho.

The drive there was nice, the weather, perfectly sunny and breezy. The restaurant (Baekdam Waterfall Trout Restaurant 백담폭포송어회) was along a river in a very pleasant part of the national park. Next door was a trout farm, so at least I can assume all the fish was fresh. The restaurant itself has a pond out back and one of the dining areas looks onto the pond from one window and a mountain from the opposite window. A really lovely place.

We ordered the basic plate of raw trout which came with lots of side dishes and soon got tucking in. It really was rather nice and very relaxing to be there. One of the appetisers was grilled or fried trout skin, very crispy and great for a beer snack.

After paying up, we went to look at the trout farm, then I explored around the a little to check out a campsite a few minutes walk away… I’m trying to find check out places that are decent for booking in the future because the websites of these sites eith hide the fact it basically a building site, or hide the fact it’s a fantastic spot! The place next to the restaurant seemed nice, with site right net to the steam and lots of tree cover.

First stop over and onto our accommodation.
