Vineworks is a hard place to describe. It’s not a bar exactly, nor a restaurant or wine shop. It’s a mixture of all three, with something else added.
It’s a fairly large place on the two upper floors in a building in Sangsu, near Hongdae and Hapjeong in Seoul. The owner hosts wine tasting events and provides food designed to match what you’re drinking.
He has a large selection of wine available to buy too, plus cheese and cured meats which he enjoys as much as the wine.
The events tend to focus on a type of wine and food pairing, a region, a master-class or something like that. They run most days of the week, and I understand to can hire the place for private events.
The host, Ian, is laid back and knowledgeable about wine and will happily talk about all types of wine if you ask him.
I’ve been to a few so far and had a great time both times. Last night was a Portuguese wine buffet, a good deal at 30,000 won for pretty much all you can drink wine and a selection of lovely Portuguese themed food.
