Glorious coasts, cafes, temples, food, and sunsets! West Seogwipo by scooter. Jeju

I rented a scooter and rode west of Seogwipo. First stop was grilled mackerel, followed by some time by the sea. I revisited Bunker House cafe for a read before riding out to the temples at Sanbangsan. I grabbed a peanut latte on the way back to Seogwipo, and then caught a glorious sunset on Saeseom islet. I finished the day at Seogwipo Everyday Olle Market with more street food and local beer!

DAY 3 OF 5-DAY stay on Jeju

I walked to the scooter rental place from Hotel Kenny Stay (same place as last time). The tank was full this time so I headed straight to the Country Jeju-Gohyang Jeju (고향제주), revisiting for some lovely grilled mackerel. There’s a view of Hallasan from the window seating there.

Then I rode through some narrow lanes to the coast and a pebble beach I’d seen a few times before on various walks and rides. I strolled around a bit taking photos.

I rode back up the hill, through more lanes then down to Beobhwan-hang harbour (법환항) for another stroll. The weather was gorgeous and the skies mottles with light wispy clouds.

Nearby was Bunker House cafe, a place I’d visited while hiking Olle-gil, Course 7. I sat with a cream-topped Viennese coffee (Einspänner) and read for a little bit. I got a seat on the small terrace looking out to sea. Very pleasant!

For some reason I wanted to ride further out west so drove about 40 minutes to Sanbangsan mountain. There are temples, cafes and restaurants in the area and it’s always an impressive looking place. I’ve visited a few times, alone and with Romana. It’s also on Course 10 of the Jeju Olle-gil. I walked up and explored the temples. There’s a small fee to go to the grotto at the top. Coming down was a bit painful on the knees which was to be expected after yesterday’s full Hallasan hike!

Back at the bottom, I was getting peckish and really wanted to try Roadside Cafe for a burger. Unfortunately I just missed the cut-off for their break time (by a minute) so I sulked and decided to head back to Seogwipo. It was a great ride back, and I took a few different roads. On the way, (~16:15) I got a peanut latte at a cafe called Southshore. It’s located right by the sea and has huge windows and a small garden, so a good place to relax.

On my way into Seogwipo, I passed Saeseom islet and (finally) decided to explore it as it was still daylight. I parked up and walked over the footbridge. As I was walking around the island, the sun began to set and I saw the most amazing sunset. I stayed close to an hour just taking pictures and thoroughly enjoying the view. It just goes to show that the most random stops result in the most amazing experiences. That was around 17:00.

It was time to get the scooter back. I put a bit of petrol in, checked it back in, then walked to the hotel. After a short rest, I headed to the market for more food and beer at Jeju Beer Fountain.
