Seomi Garden was a nice surprise, a botanical garden in the hills with themed sections. It was a little run down (or just in winter mode?) but it was charming nonetheless. Namhae is a quiet and pretty island on the south coast of Korea, with Yeosu on the west and Tongyeong on the east. I spent a four days on Namhae-do, and here’s what I got up to!
After breakfast on the roof of the guesthouse, I drove out for my final day on Namhae. The rain had stopped and the sky was clear. Seomi Garden (섬이정원) is on the west of the island and hidden in some hills.
There wasn’t anyone around but I found a ticket booth, paid and went in. The grounds were laid out on three levels in a forest. You walk your way through a series of paths that gradually take you up or down depending on the direction you go.
Each section of the garden has its own theme. I only saw two other groups of people while I walked around. The sections were interesting and the walk was peaceful. The views from the top part of the garden were great , too; to the mountains and the sea.
After leaving, I visited Daraengi Village again, which you can read about here. Before going in, I grabbed a coffee at Cafe Here Now (지금 여기) that overlooked the village.
After spending a few hours in the village, I started making my way to the main town. I stopped by the garlic museum for a quick look around; it was surprisingly interesting! Then I parked my SOCAR, wandered around town a little bit, then got on the bus back to Seoul.
All in all, a fun four-day trip to Namhae!
