Day 6 of 9-day trip to Japan
After a long day at Arashiyama, we wanted to eat something special and not too far from our accommodation.
We cycled around before hitting up a small place quite close to our accommodation (寿司処 小次郎). It was run by a older gentleman who couldn’t speak English but with pointing, Google translate and a little help from a younger women working there, we ordered up a whole lot of raw fish.
This place was obviously popular and the staff seemed to know a lot of the people. It wasn’t a big place and was mainly serving at the counter, but there were some tables a bit further back. The vibe here was really nice, and with the general high standard of raw fish in Japan, Romana was feeling very happy; me too! All the dishes were lovingly presented and tasted amazing, no exceptions. We washed it all down with a few glasses of the sake-in-a-tray (must get the name of that…).
The counter had some interesting decor and the chopsticks holder was cute. Outside on the street were some bins that looked a lot like the ‘mash get smashed’ robots from my youth. Or frogs. We liked it so much here that we made this our lunch stop on our way to our next Airbnb place. This time, I got some better photos in daylight.
Here’s a little helper on the counter:
