We took a day trip to Taejongdae (태종대) Resort Park on the island of Yeongdo (영도) in Busan, and finished with a raw fish meal at 태종대낚시.
Taejongdae offered a very pleasant stroll along the coast.
There is a nice rest stop at Yeongdo Lighthouse. After enjoying the views and a coffee at the top, we started the epic walk down the stairs to the rocky coast.
At the base of the lighthouse, there were boat tips running, and people milling about.
But the real reason we came was so my girlfriend could get some fresh raw fish! It was super breezy and chilly at the bottom and several women in full wet and warm gear were managing an outdoor restaurant. Basically, you choose your fish and the women will cut it up in front of you. Next you go sit on the ground in a heated plastic tent by the sea. The women will bring your fish over with some side dishes and your booze and there you go! We had a mix of plaice and flatfish and still writhing octopus and other strange things. When you eat still moving octopus legs, keep chewing; you don’t want to get choked and die on the thing sticking to your throat. Apparently, this is a thing, so beware!
Fresh seafood in the warmth by the crisp blue, salty sea. My first time eating moving fish too. What an experience!
