I took a three day trip to Gunsan to explore some of the surrounding countryside and some of the historic town. I didn’t do all the things I’d planned to do because of weather forecasts that didn’t turn out to be accurate, but I still had fun.
Day 3 of 3-day trip to Gunsan
It turned out it didn’t snow a lot during the night; I tried to rebook the SOCAR but it had gone. Oh well! I checked out and headed to the bakery I went to yesterday morning (Lee Sung Dang (이성당) for an apple tart pastry and a coffee. I bought a lot of the bean paste buns that people seemed to be going crazy for; obviously the buns are what this bakery is known for. One woman picked up a whole tray of fresh buns and took them to the counter for packing up. The staff were barely keeping up with demand!
I then took a slow walk back towards the harbour and to Miz Coffee (미즈커피), a very nicely decorated cafe. The upstairs interior was in the style of a Japanese house, with a corridor running around the edge and different rooms in the centre. All were decorated with tatami and small tables to sit around. Very lovely. I was the only person there so could snap away in all the little rooms and ‘hidden’ without bothering anyone!
I then took a bus to the express bus station. I had a while till it left so walked a while on the hunt for a lottery ticket and found one after about 30 minutes. When I got back, there were people wondering about my suitcase I’d left by my chair at the bus station; glad they didn’t stick it in lost property! The ride home was fine. Being a Saturday and not working, Romana and I went out for some Italian food and wine in Yeonnam-dong. A good end to my trip.
