This was a winter trip in two parts; a solo three days, then an additional four days with Romana. This post documents the second half of our day.
Day 6 of 7 winter days on Jeju
After our busy morning and lunch, we drove to the south coast to Cafe Seoyeonui House (카페서연의집). This is in a remodelled (rebuilt?) building right on the rocky coast on a quiet road. The place was featured in a Korean film (Architecture 101) a few years back; I watched a bit of it, not understanding anything(!) but the house and location really appealed to me.
Next up was a short stop to Soesokkak Estuary (소깍해변), a place I’d been to before. It has a really interesting volcanic river bed, like the one I’d seen in the north of Jeju in the first, solo half of my trip. After this, I wanted to take Romana to Gogeunsan Oreum, the easy-access oreum with fantastic view I’d also visited the week before. The light this time was different and had we be wrapped up warmer, we might have stayed for the sunset!
Next, we needed a place for our hungry asses, so home for a rest then a stroll back to the market for some seafood. This time we went to one of the showier places called Ujeonghoejjib (우정회센타). I think the owners had bought up few properties in the market. The had a couple of staff aoutside making a show of killing a fish on the pavement in front of a small crowd. We paid about 60,000 for a plate of mixed raw fish, including mackerel, and some interesting side dishes. This was my first take of hard-shelled shrimps (딱새우), and a whole fish inside a kimbab! We even ‘went crazy’ and bought a bottle of Jeju Hallasan soju, which I enjoyed!
