On my second day I cycled from Jumun to a popular coffee street next to Anmok Beach (안목해변). I then took a ride into the main town before heading back along the beautiful coastal bike paths. I finished the day with more seafood at Jumun fish market, shopping and little back-street exploring.
Day 5 of solo 6-day roadtrip
I took another picture from the Airbnb roof (lovely day) then assembled my bike in the car park. I cycled south past Jumun fish market then tried as much as possible to keep to the coast road and any cycle paths along the way. It was a very pleasant ride and when I wasn’t on the coast, I had bright yellow fields and distant mountains on my right. Along the way were quite a few camp sites which I saved to my map app for future reference; much better than reading reviews! UPDATE: I cycled this same road on my cycling trip with Gareth in 2023.
I had left around 9 and got to the coffee street just before 12. It is on Anmok Beach and is a popular spot for couples and tourists. It really is a seaside street full of coffee shops, large and small! Thankfully, they seemed reasonably busy so will be around for a while. I chose a place called L.bean because it had a terrace. I loved sitting looking at the sea with a great coffee and a slice of pie. It also gave me a chance to plan my next move.
I decided to try and find a recommended burger bar in the main town so I had to cycle south a bit, then inland. This tool longer than I anticipated but it did take me past another nice looking campsite. I was cycling inland along a river, another pleasant ride. In town, of course, it just became like any other town; annoying on a bicycle! It was also quite hilly in places. Unfortunately, the burger restaurant I was looking for was shut so I headed further into town to find a Lotteria (I had burgers on my mind, so don’t judge me!).
Cycling is only so much fun in the city so I thought I’d start heading back and decided to go to and around Gyeongpo Lake back to the coast road. This also took longer than expected and I was getting a bit tired, too tired to stop for photos! It was nice though.
Back on the coast road I stopped at a cafe called Terarosa hidden a bit back in the trees. It was a big place, probably a great place for coffee dates! However, for some reason, I decided to keep going and get a cheaper coffee at one of the convenience stores with tables outside I had passed on the way. I could save money, sit outside and look at the distant mountains.
Back in Jumun, I stopped to get some dried fish I’d seen yesterday. These would be gifts for my family in Seoul. I got back to the Airbnb at about 4:30, rested and cleaned up before walking around some of the back streets nearby as an alternative route to the fish market. This time I had a couple of grilled fishes, extremely filling. And I can’t remember their names, so lets call them Jeff and Susan. A fun, but tiring day.
